Mint & Flower: A Website in Bloom

I finally created my website! After months of putting this goal off, and I am so happy to launch my site. I’m learning that small steps are okay and I don’t have to leap toward my idea of perfection. As I grow as an artist, Mint & Flower will continue to grow and bloom with me.

Learning Along the Way

Creating the website came with a few hiccups, but each adjustment taught me something. I learned how to align images and text for both desktop and mobile. Constructive, uplifting critiques from other talented artists helped me improve the formatting and catch links that weren’t working, which is especially important part of getting the website running smoothly.

Curating My Collections

Originally, I wanted the website simply to showcase a portfolio of my favorite collections. I looked through my art, revisited my choices, and removed some pieces to make the collections more cohesive. For my portfolio, choosing quality over quantity meant letting each collection feel more cohesive. For example Fluttering Flower, is so special to me because it is one of my first collections and I made A LOT of designs. However, as I continue to learn and create more art I will occasionally look back at my older work to compare, and sometimes make improvements.

For Example:

cottage inspired florals with butterflies. A vintage inspired pattern that displays soft pink, cream, and mocha flowers accented with beautiful butterflies with a rich backdrop.

Fluttering Flower for my Portfolio

With a few tweaks here and there this version of Fluttering Flower feels more polished and cohesive; quality over quantity.

Keeping the Joy in Creating

I love the convenience of creating art in Procreate on my iPad, but every now and then I miss my sketching with graphite, picking up my brush and my mixed media supplies to paint and play in my journal. As I continue to refine my skills, and grow as an artist I want to continue having fun while creating. Growing as an artist doesn’t have to mean losing the joy along the way.
